Wallpaper Guide

Everything you need to know before ordering your Petite Playhouse wallpaper.

From measuring your wall to choosing the right material and preparing for installation.

📏 How to Measure Your Wall

Before ordering, measure the full width and height of the wall you’d like to wallpaper. For best results, measure at the widest and tallest points, especially if your walls are slightly uneven.

If you’re covering more than one wall, measure each wall separately and add the quantities together. For walls with windows, doors, alcoves or sloped ceilings, we recommend measuring the full wall area and trimming around obstacles during installation for the cleanest finish.

Calculating how many panels you need

Each wallpaper panel is 20" wide. To work out how many panels you need:

1. Measure the full width of your wall and take the total wall width in inches and divide the wall width by 20". This tells you how many wallpaper panels are needed across the wall.

2. If the answer is not a whole number, always round up to the nearest whole number. For example:

If your wall is 96" wide:
96 ÷ 20 = 4.8
You would need 5 panels.

Next, measure the height of your wall and choose the panel height that fully covers it.

For example:

  • Wall height up to 53" → choose 20" × 53"
  • Wall height up to 96" → choose 20" × 96"
  • Wall height up to 108" → choose 20" × 108"
  • Wall height up to 118" → choose 20" × 118"
  • Wall height up to 120" → choose 20" × 120"
  • Wall height up to 150" → choose 20" × 150"
  • Taller walls may need a longer roll option such as 5m or 10m.

If you’re unsure, you can use our Wallpaper Calculator or contact us with your wall measurements before ordering. We’re always happy to help you choose the right quantity.

✨ How to Install

For Preparation:

A smooth, clean and dry wall is essential for the best finish.

Before installation, remove dust, dirt and loose material from the wall. Clean the surface with a mild detergent or sugar soap and allow it to dry completely. Any holes, cracks or uneven areas should be filled, sanded smooth and left to dry before applying wallpaper.

New, unpainted or porous walls should be sealed or primed before installation. Wallpaper is not recommended for damp walls, textured walls, freshly painted walls, unprimed drywall or surfaces with mould or peeling paint.

A dry surface is the right surface - please be patient and make sure your wall is fully prepared before starting.

Installation:

Always install wallpaper carefully and follow the instructions for your chosen material.

For Peel & Stick wallpaper, start at the top of the wall and peel back a small section of backing at a time. Apply slowly, smoothing as you go to avoid bubbles. If bubbles or wrinkles appear, gently peel back and reapply using a soft felt squeegee.

For Pre-Pasted wallpaper, activate the backing with water according to the material instructions, then apply to the wall and smooth from top to bottom.

For Traditional Non-Pasted wallpaper, apply wallpaper paste to the wall one drop at a time, then position the wallpaper and smooth gently. Trim the top and bottom once the wallpaper has settled.

For the best result, especially on larger walls, we recommend having two people install the wallpaper together.
